Midwest Student Exchange Program

What is the Midwest Student Exchange Program?
The Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) is an interstate initiative established by the Midwestern Education Commission to increase educational opportunities for students in its members’ states. This program enables residents of Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska and Wisconsin to enroll in designated institutions and programs at reduced tuition levels outside of their home state. MSEP seeks to provide more affordable educational opportunities for students to enroll in those institutions that have excess capacity in existing programs.

Students who are planning to attend Kansas State University (K-State) to study in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design may be eligible for this tuition reduction program.

How do I ensure I will be considered for the MSEP?
At Kansas State University in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Design, students must apply for admission to K-State and complete a KSU scholarship application to be considered for MSEP. The number of new students who can participate in the MSEP each academic year is restricted. The KSU scholarship application is available through the Office of Student Financial Assistance. It is also available electronically at www.k-state.edu/sfa/. You are encouraged to complete both applications well ahead of the published deadline – typically November 1.
What selection criteria are used for MSEP participation?
You must be a citizen of a participating state. You must have a high level of academic performance with a minimum ACT score of 24 and GPA of 3.5.
How do I maintain my participation in MSEP?
To retain this tuition reduction benefit, a student must maintain a cumulative K-State grade point average of at least 3.0 in one of the covered curriculums, remain a resident in a participating state, and make acceptable progress toward the degree as verified by the department chair.
If I am from Missouri and receive a MSEP, will I still be considered for a Missouri Tuition Waiver?
Yes. A student from Missouri who receives a MSEP will automatically be considered for a Missouri Tuition Waiver. Missouri Tuition Waivers are granted during the first semester. If you receive a Missouri Tuition Waiver, you will be placed in that program because it is a better financial package (in-state tuition).
What is the amount of tuition reduction under MSEP?
At Kansas State University, MSEP will be approximately 150 percent of in-state tuition.
